HILDORE ELVIRA VIKMAN. Born in Axtell, Nebraska on November 4, 1893, Hildore
was one of the six children of Harry and Hannah Johnson. She grew up in
Axtell, then took nurse's training, graduating from the Swedish Mission
Hospital in Omaha in 1920. After graduating she nursed for seven years in
rural Nebraska, and in New York, where she also took care of her brother
Harris, who was ill. In 1927 she married the Reverend J. Arvid Vikman.
Together they served pastorates in Lynn, Massachusetts; Winnipeg, Manitoba;
Stockholm, Saskatchewan; Edmonton, Wetaskiwin, and Clive in Alberta; and
Burnaby, British Columbia. Following the death of Arvid in 1953, she returned
to the United States and continued her nursing career, first in Seattle,
Washington; then in Omaha, Nebraska; and in Hastings, Nebraska. Nursing was
very dear to her heart and she often liked to tell of her experiences. After
returning to Canada in 1983, she lived in Calgary, Alberta; Burnaby, British
Columbia; Cochrane, Alberta; and for the last two years of her life resided at
Salem Manor Nursing Home in Leduc. She died peacefully at the Leduc General
Hospital on Saturday, May 7th with Miriam and Eric at her side. She leaves to
mourn her loss, her loving family: her four children; Linnea Badger, Miriam
(Eric) Pedersen, Duane (Farrel) Vikman, and Edwin (Nancy) Vikman; nine
grandchildren; Alane Alden, Steven Alden, Alison (Rockne) Clarke, Beth (Alan)
Rossier, Susan (Thomas Ertman) Pedersen, Andrea (Kevin) Stangeland, Steven
Pedersen, Alison (Jeffrey) Nelson, and Andrew Vikman: six great grandchildren;
Emily and Christopher Alden, Any and Michael Clarke, and Kaitlyn and Jenna
Stangeland; several nieces and nephews; Mildred Jergens, who was raised by
Hildore's parents, and other relatives and friends. We thank the Lord for her
long life and will always teasure our memories of her.
